Pay-and-display parking spaces range from as low as £0.30 per hour on sections of Craigleith Road to the North of the city, to £3.80 per hour in busier, more central locations such as Queen Street.

On-street pay-and-display spaces typically operate Monday-Saturday, 8:30am-6:30pm. It is always worth noting where you intend on parking prior to your arrival as on-street tariffs can vary significantly.

  • Off-street parking

There are 7 park and ride locations in and around Edinburgh. Hermiston park and ride (Riccarton Mains Road, Currie, Midlothian, EH14 4AT) offers free 24 hour parking 7 days a week and is around 30 minutes journey into the centre of Edinburgh by bus.

In terms of off-street car parks in Edinburgh, most are privately run and charge quite an expensive rate. For example, Edinburgh Castle Terrace car park (Castle Terrace, Edinburgh, EH1 2EW) is open 24 hours a day Monday-Sunday, has a number of spaces and good facilities and is perfect for those visiting the castle but charges a high rate compared to other parking options in the city.

Alternatively, in the Northeast of the city centre, Edinburgh Q-Park Omni (Greenside Row, Edinburgh, EH1 3AN) is the largest centrally-located off-street car park in the city and charges a lower tariff than its nearby multi-storey competitors. This car park also operates 24 hours a day, Monday-Sunday.

JustPark offers a range of reservable off-street spaces across Edinburgh – in both council and commercially-run car parks, as well as at hotels, offices and on private driveways. You can browse these options and book a guaranteed space via our website or app.

  • Public transport

Edinburgh Waverley station is the main train station serving the city and is located at the very heart of Edinburgh, with great links to the east coast of the UK and the rest of Scotland.

Edinburgh bus station is also located centrally – just a short walk from Edinburgh Waverley and the main shopping area – and provides bus services to the surrounding area primarily through one of the largest bus networks, Lothian Buses.

  • Disabled parking

Disabled drivers displaying their Blue Badge can park free of charge and for an unlimited amount of time in any on-street pay-and-display or disabled space in Edinburgh. There are around 90 on-street disabled parking spaces in Edinburgh. You can find the nearest space to your destination by viewing Edinburgh Council’s parking bay location map.

Alternatively, most off-street car parks within the city offer disabled parking – but at some attractions such as Edinburgh Castle, you must call ahead to book a space in advance.

You can also filter when searching on JustPark to show all parking spaces with disabled access in Edinburgh (select this option by clicking ‘Filters’ on the search results page).

  • Parking restrictions & event days

Tariffs can vary from street to street – and the majority of the city is split up into Controlled Parking Zones with differing pay-and-display rates.

For events such as the Edinburgh Fringe festival in August, most off-street car parks will offer a special rate – and concurrently on-street parking becomes increasingly limited.

On the JustPark map, we’ll only show you spaces which you’re allowed to park in at the times/dates you search for.

  • Overnight, weekends & bank holidays

Only on four holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Easter Monday) can you park free of charge in Edinburgh. However, most pay-and-display spaces can be used on Sundays at no cost.

Overnight parking is available at many secure locations across Edinburgh, with most car parks operating 24 hours a day – but this can prove to be quite expensive, with fares starting at around £20 for 24 hours.

Enter your dates and times on our search results page to see what’s available overnight.

  • Nearby attractions

Edinburgh is a beautiful place, with the historic Castle and the old cobbled streets of the centre demanding attention from anyone who sets foot in the city. There is lots to see and do, with Edinburgh being home to both the National Museum of Scotland and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Before doing anything though, why not park up and take all this majestic beauty in by parking yourself upon Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park to the Southeast of the city centre.
