Where to Park for Christmas Shopping in London
The right spot depends on the kind of shopping day you want. Here's how London's main festive destinations compare.
Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City
Two of the capital's biggest shopping centres, in west and east London, with hundreds of shops, from high street favourites to department stores and premium brands, plus restaurants, cafes and a cinema. Both are easy to reach by car and both get very busy on December weekends.
Best for: A big shop in one trip, a rainy-day outing, or a family day out where everyone wants something different.
Parking: Book Westfield London parking or reserve a space near Westfield Stratford City before you set off, so you can go straight to the shops.
Oxford Street, Regent Street and Covent Garden
The classic London Christmas. Oxford Street's lights are due to be switched on on Monday 9 November, with the traditional star lights joined this year by Harry Potter-inspired designs. Regent Street's "Spirits of Christmas" angels are lit from Thursday 5 November, and Covent Garden's lights go on on Thursday 12 November. The three sit close together, so they're easy to combine in one trip.
Best for: The Christmas lights, the department stores and flagship shops, and the full festive London atmosphere.
Parking: The West End is inside the Congestion Charge zone and spaces go fast. Reserve Oxford Street parking, with spaces from £2.90 an hour on JustPark, or find Covent Garden parking before you head in. Several spaces around Marble Arch are about a five-minute walk from the shops.
Carnaby Street, Battersea Power Station and Canary Wharf
Less department store, more discovery. Carnaby Street's "Press Play on Christmas" lights, inspired by 90s nostalgia, are on from Wednesday 4 November, alongside its independent fashion shops. Battersea Power Station's Christmas illuminations run from Thursday 5 November, with riverside shopping, food and festive events. Canary Wharf brings several shopping malls, restaurants and bars together in one waterside district.
Best for: Gifts you won't find on every high street, a lights-and-shopping evening, and a day out that mixes shopping with eating and drinking.
Parking: Nearby spaces go quickly at weekends and on light-up evenings. Find Carnaby Street parking, book Battersea Power Station parking or reserve a space near Canary Wharf ahead, so you know where you're parking when you arrive.
Brent Cross and London Designer Outlet
Easy, drive-friendly shopping on the edge of the city. Brent Cross is a traditional shopping centre in north London, reached by road via the A41 and A406 with the M1 close by, and outside the Congestion Charge zone. London Designer Outlet in Wembley is an open-air outlet with designer brands at reduced prices, ideal if you're hunting for gift deals without heading into the West End.
Best for: Drivers who want to avoid central London and the Congestion Charge, and shoppers after a bargain.
Parking: Both are popular at weekends and in the run-up to Christmas. Find Brent Cross parking in advance and compare spaces by reviews and photos. Heading to Wembley? Plan your London Designer Outlet parking ahead too.
Congestion Charge and ULEZ for Christmas Shopping in London
Driving into central London for the West End? Check these before you go:
Congestion Charge: £18 a day (£21 if you pay within three days after travelling). It runs 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 12pm to 6pm on weekends and bank holidays. There is no charge from Christmas Day to New Year's Day inclusive.
ULEZ: £12.50 a day for vehicles that don't meet emissions standards, 24 hours a day, every day except Christmas Day. Both charges can apply on the same day.
Check your vehicle on the TfL website before travelling, as discounts and exemptions have changed.
Christmas Shopping Parking in London: FAQs
Where is the best place to park for Christmas shopping in London?
It depends on your shopping day. For a big all-in-one trip, park near Westfield London or Westfield Stratford City. For the West End, aim for a pre-booked space near Oxford Street or Covent Garden. For a quieter option away from central London, try Brent Cross or London Designer Outlet.
How much does parking cost for Christmas shopping in London?
Prices depend on the location, the day and how long you stay, and spaces closest to busy shopping streets tend to cost more. On JustPark you can compare spaces and see the price before you book. A private space a short walk from the shops can offer better value than the closest car park.
When should I book parking for Christmas shopping in London?
As early as you can, especially for December weekends and Black Friday on Friday 27 November, when spaces near popular shopping destinations fill up fast. Booking ahead means you arrive knowing where you'll park.
Where can I park to see the Oxford Street Christmas lights?
Pre-book a space near Oxford Street before you set off. The area is busy once the lights are on and sits inside the Congestion Charge zone, so a confirmed space saves you hunting for one.
Can I find accessible parking for Christmas shopping in London?
Yes. You can search for accessible parking on JustPark and book it in advance, which takes the worry out of a busy day in the West End.
Is there free parking near Oxford Street?
Free parking in the West End is very limited and heavily enforced, so it's rarely a realistic option on a busy shopping day. A pre-booked space gives you certainty and, often, a better price than paying on the day.
Live Near London's Shopping Areas? Rent Out Your Space
Even if you're not shopping yourself, Christmas is one of the busiest times of year for parking demand.
If you live near Oxford Street, Westfield or Brent Cross, you could rent out your driveway or parking space to festive shoppers and earn extra income from space that would otherwise sit empty.
Hosts near busy shopping areas can use scheduled pricing to charge more on peak days like Black Friday and December weekends. Our guide to managing your space's pricing shows you how.
