Christmas Shopping in London: Where to Go and Where to Park

Not sure where to go? Here's how London's Christmas shopping spots differ, and how to park at each.

Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City

Everything under one roof. Westfield London in west London and Westfield Stratford City in the east are two of the biggest shopping centres in the capital, with hundreds of shops, from high street favourites to department stores and premium brands, plus restaurants, cafes and a cinema.

Best for: A big shop in one go, a rainy-day trip, or a family day out where everyone wants something different.

Parking: Both get very busy on December weekends. Book Westfield London parking or Westfield Stratford City parking ahead and skip the circling.

Oxford Street, Regent Street and Covent Garden

The classic London Christmas. The Oxford Street Christmas lights and Regent Street's festive displays sit alongside big department stores and flagship shops, while Covent Garden has the Piazza, street performers and a more relaxed, wander-around feel. The three sit close together, so it's easy to combine them in one trip.

Best for: Seeing the Oxford Street Christmas lights, soaking up the atmosphere as much as shopping, and the full festive London experience.

Parking: The West End is inside the Congestion Charge zone and spaces go fast. Reserve Oxford Street parking or find Covent Garden parking before you set off.

Carnaby Street, Battersea Power Station & Canary Wharf

Less department store, more discovery. Carnaby Street is known for independent fashion and its Christmas lights. Battersea Power Station pairs a landmark riverside setting with shops, food and Christmas events. Canary Wharf brings several shopping malls, restaurants and bars together in one waterside district.

Best for: Gifts you won't find on every high street, seeing the Carnaby Street Christmas lights, and a day out that combines shopping with eating and drinking.

Parking: Nearby spaces go quickly, especially at weekends and on evenings when the lights are on. Book Battersea Power Station parking, reserve Canary Wharf parking or find Carnaby Street parking before you head out, so you know where you’re parking when you arrive.

Brent Cross and London Designer Outlet

Easy, drive-friendly shopping on the edge of the city. Brent Cross is a traditional shopping centre in north London, easy to reach by road via the A41 and A406 with the M1 close by, and outside the Congestion Charge zone. London Designer Outlet in Wembley is an open-air outlet with designer brands at reduced prices, so it’s a good stop if you’re hunting for gift deals without heading into the West End.

Best for: Drivers who want to avoid central London and the Congestion Charge, and shoppers hunting for a deal.

Parking: Handy by car but popular at weekends and Christmas. Book Brent Cross parking in advance and you can compare spaces by reviews and photos. If you’re heading to Wembley, plan your London Designer Outlet parking ahead too.

FAQs about Christmas shopping parking

It depends on where you’re shopping. For a big all-in-one trip, park near Westfield London or Westfield Stratford City. For the West End, aim for a pre-booked space near Oxford Street or Covent Garden. For a quieter option away from central London, try Brent Cross or London Designer Outlet.

Out-of-centre destinations like Westfield London, Westfield Stratford City, Brent Cross and London Designer Outlet tend to be easier to reach by car than the West End, where streets are busy and the Congestion Charge may apply. Whichever you choose, booking a space ahead means you know where you're parking before you leave home.

Prices depend on the location, the day and how long you stay, and spaces closer to busy shopping areas tend to cost more. On JustPark you can compare spaces and see the price before you book. A driveway or private space a short walk from the shops can offer a better price than the closest car park.

Book as early as you can, especially for weekends in December and Black Friday (27 November), when spaces near popular shopping destinations fill up fast. Booking ahead lets you lock in a space and arrive without hunting for one. Plans change at Christmas, so if yours do, you can amend your booking.

The Oxford Street Christmas lights are due to be switched on on Monday 9 November 2026. This year's display is Harry Potter-themed, alongside Oxford Street's classic star lights.

Pre-book a space near Oxford Street before you set off. The area is busy once the lights are on and sits inside the Congestion Charge zone, so a confirmed space saves you hunting for one.

The Carnaby Street Christmas lights are switched on on Wednesday 4 November 2026. This year's display is called "Press Play on Christmas" and is inspired by 90s nostalgia.

Park nearby in the West End and walk to Carnaby Street. Pre-booking a space around Soho and Oxford Circus means you know where you're heading before you leave home.
