There are numerous on-street parking spaces within a 15-minute walk of the station. Convenient locations include Sheppard Street, Sanford Street, London Street and Emlyn Square. Use the JustPark website and app for all the information you may need.
Swindon station itself has two car parks, both operated by APCOA (UK) Limited, one of which is restricted to 20 minutes. The main car park has 578 spaces and has a daily fixed fee of £8.80. Further off-street car parks are run by Swindon Borough Council and have a charge of £1.00 per hour. The most convenient locations are at Cheltenham Street, the North Star car park and on Sheppard Street.
As might be expected, Swindon has an excellent public transport system, with numerous bus services and taxis. Swindon bus station is located on New Bridge Close and is served by National Express coaches, Infobus and Sinbad. There is a convenient taxi rank at the railway station entrance.
Disabled travellers will find accessible ticket machines and step-free access to the station from the car park. Accessible toilets are located on Platform 4. A ramp is available for boarding the train. If an accessible taxi is required, staff members at the station will be pleased to assist.
Many on-street parking spaces are designated for residents only between the hours of 8:00 and 11:00, so attention needs to be paid to any warning signs. This generally only applies Monday to Saturday. Sundays are unrestricted and free of charge. Some parking bays are known as “dual use”, which means that only those who hold residents permits can park there free of charge.
There is no reduction in any fees for any of the parking spaces across Swindon on bank holidays.
The short stay car park at Swindon station is a designated area for dropping off and picking up passengers and is free of charge. Wroughton park and ride can also be used as a drop-off and pick-up point.
Visitors to Swindon can enjoy a varied selection of museums and art galleries. Particularly popular is the Museum of the Great Western Railway. Other choices include the Museum of Computing and Swindon Museum, known for its extensive collection of fossils.
