Preston station is located just west of Preston city centre – and as with the whole city itself, is quite simple to get to by car being not too far from the M6. From the M6, simply follow the A59 Westbound and follow signs to the station once you reach the edge of the city centre.
On-street parking is quite difficult near to the station, with many of the surrounding streets only providing permit holder only spaces. However, the off-street parking options nearby are plentiful and should mean that finding a space isn’t too much of a problem.

There are a good number of on-street pay-and-display spaces in Preston, but most are more centrally located with many of the spaces near to the station reserved solely for resident permit holders. On-street parking charges typically apply from 8am-6pm, Monday-Saturday, but most enforce a maximum stay. The nearest pay-and-display spaces to the station are located at the other side of Fishergate shopping centre on Winckley Square.

Virgin Trains operate the Main Station car park (Butler Street, Fishergate, Preston, PR1 8AP) which runs 24 hours a day, Monday-Sunday. The car park is located just down the road from the station on Butler Street and offers a moderately priced daily rate for a main station car park. It has a huge amount of spaces across its multi-storey and surface car parks, and generally affords you the most convenient access to and from the station.
Alternatively, Fishergate shopping centre car park (Butler Street, Fishergate, Preston, PR1 8HJ) which is located directly adjacent to the Main Station car park in a fantastic location for the station and the city centre. It has very reasonable hourly fares, but is not quite as suitable as a Long Stay option.

Lancashire County Council has provided many on-street and off-street disabled spaces throughout Preston that Blue Badge holders can use.
Blue Badge holders can also park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours provided they are not causing an obstruction to traffic or violating any loading bans on location.

Parking on-street within Preston is under the authority of Lancashire County Council, who have imposed a number of restrictions on parking around the city centre and station. Many of the nearby streets prohibit parking as they are busy central roads, and spaces on streets to the west of the station are generally reserved for residents/permit holders only. Before parking on-street anywhere near to the station, make sure to read signposts on location to ensure you are not parked illegally.

A great option when it comes to parking overnight is at the Main Station car park, who operate a 24/7 multi-storey facility with quite reasonable daily, nightly and Long Stay rates.

There are a couple of options when it comes to drop-off and pick-up locations at Preston station. The station recommends you use Bishop Street (opposite Fishergate shopping centre) for this purpose, which has a long side road with parking spaces and lay-bys available. The approach to the main entrance is also an option, but there is no parking allowed outside the station door – which has resulted in a unique “No Parking – Kiss and Ride” sign being erected outside, to try and deter those long goodbye kiss farewells to ease congestion.
The station is located fairly centrally within Preston, to the southeast of the city centre. Just across the road from the station is the large Fishergate shopping centre, where you can shop away or indulge in some of the finest eateries. If it’s the city life you want to escape from, Preston station has the best of both worlds – as within just a short walk south, you’ll find yourself lost in the beauty of the Avenham and Miller Parks overlooking the River Ribble.
