Parking made easy
Information about parking in Greenwich
Greenwich is just south of the River Thames, and the A2 running just below the area (from Central London to the west and Rochester to the east) makes Greenwich very accessible by car.
On-street parking can be particularly difficult with a limited number of on-street spaces made available to visiting drivers. There are a number of off-street car parks throughout Greenwich but these two are often limited in spaces.
It may be worth considering completing at least some of your journey to Greenwich by public transport, with the fantastic links provided in and around the centre.
JustPark provides information on a wide choice of parking options across Greenwich – including spaces on-street, off-street and those that are reservable, from driveways to car parks.
Greenwich town centre is within a wide-reaching Controlled Parking Zone that operates from 9am-5pm Monday-Saturday and 9am-6pm on Sundays. Greenwich Council enforce these zones to ensure that parking is available for residents and business owners. As a result, much of the parking in Greenwich is reserved for resident permit holders only.
On-street parking for visiting drivers is limited to visitor permits and pay-and-display spaces of which there is often a limited amount available and fares can be quite high for a non-central location.
You can use the JustPark parking map to locate on-street parking options in Greenwich.
There are a number of off-street car parks in Greenwich but most have a limited number of spaces. Many of these though are council-operated such as the two off-street car parks listed below.
A great choice for visitors to the Royal Greenwich Observatory, also located near to Greenwich station, is Burney Street car park (Burney Street, Greenwich, SE10 8EX). This site is open 24 hours a day, Monday-Sunday, but charges only apply from 8am-6.30pm on all days – parking is free of charge outside of these hours.
For something closer to the river and the famous Cutty Sark landmark, Cutty Sark Gardens car park (Welland Street, Greenwich, SE10 9HT) is a good choice. Just like the car park above, this site is also open all day 7 days a week but only charges from 8am-6.30pm. The normal hourly charges are reasonable for its location.
JustPark offers a range of reservable off-street spaces in Greenwich – in both council and commercially-run car parks, as well as at hotels, offices and on private driveways. You can browse these options and book a guaranteed space via our website or app.

Greenwich station serves the area, providing National Rail services primarily to the Southeast of England. However, a great mode of transport in these parts is the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Greenwich station also provides a DLR service, but closer to the centre – and subsequently the rest of London – is the Cutty Sark DLR station, a more convenient option near to the river.
Blue Badge holders can park in any disabled, pay-and-display bay or council-operated off-street car park free of charge and without time limit throughout the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Disabled drivers displaying their Blue Badge may also park on single or double yellow lines for up to 3 hours if necessary provided they are not causing an obstruction to traffic or violating a loading ban on location.

The Royal borough of Greenwich has a number of Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) in place to ensure that residents and business owners can park outside their properties. Greenwich centre is within a CPZ which largely limits on-street parking to permit holders. Some on-street spaces are available for paying visiting drivers but always make sure to read local signage so that you don’t inadvertently park illegally.
On the JustPark map, we’ll only show you spaces which you’re allowed to park in at the times you search for.
On-street parking restrictions apply as normal on all Bank holidays – with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
Overnight parking is available in Greenwich Council car parks which are often open through the night with no parking charges applying after a certain time in the evening.

Greenwich is notable for being internationally selected in the 19th Century as the Prime Meridian of the world for which navigation and time would use as a point of reference as its zero standard. I say all this but I’m sure you’ll find out a whole lot more if you were to visit the Prime Meridian museum or the Royal Greenwich Observatory in the beautiful Greenwich Park to the south of the town centre. In Greenwich, you can soak up the history of a place that the world revolves around and gaze from the famous Cutty Sark ship across the river to the new world Canary Wharf beyond.
