Additional Information

Some additional information about parking in southend on sea, to cater to all your parking needs

  • On-street parking

It can be quite challenging to park on-street in Southend-on-sea, as much of the town is made up of resident parking zones. Within these zones, parking is limited to pay-and-display bays for visiting drivers with some zones largely having a majority of ‘permit holder only’ spaces.

However, there are a good number of spaces often available in both the town centre and by the seafront on the Esplanade. On-street parking charges are actually quite reasonably priced for such a resort, but will be most expensive on the Western Esplanade near to Southend Pier. Restrictions typically apply from 9am-6pm, Monday-Sunday.

You can use the JustPark parking map to find information on available on-street parking spaces in Southend-on-sea.

  • Off-street parking

There are a lot of affordable off-street car parks throughout Southend, including plenty of council-operated sites – but these are often smaller in size than some of the equally affordable commercial sites.

A great option close to the southern edge of the town centre is The Royals shopping centre car park (Church Road, Southend-on-sea, SS1 1DG). This is a particularly large car park, in an ideal location for both central Southend and the seafront – operating 24 hours-a-day, Monday-Sunday. It is slightly more expensive than some other local options, but car park prices are generally quite cheap in Southend.

The Victoria shopping centre car park (36 Chartwell Square, Southend-on-sea, SS2 5SP) is another option toward the northern edge of the town centre, near to Southend Victoria station. It is one of the cheapest and largest off-street car parks in the whole town, charging from 5.30am-7.30pm Monday-Saturday – and offering free parking from 6.30am-7.30pm on Sundays.

JustPark offers a range of reservable off-street spaces in Southend – in both council and commercially-run car parks, as well as at hotels, offices and on private driveways. You can browse these options and book a guaranteed space via our website or app.

Southend has quite a few stations serving the local area and beyond. Southend Victoria station is on the Great Eastern Main Line, with regular trains to and from London Liverpool Street. Alternatively, the London, Tilbury and Southend line runs from Shoeburyness, via a few stations in Southend and Essex, before ending up at Fenchurch Street station in London.

There are also several bus services operating within the city, providing particularly good connections to the surrounding area from the town centre.

  • Disabled parking

Disabled drivers displaying their Blue Badge may park in any on-street parking bay free of charge.

Blue Badge holders may also park on single or double yellow lines provided they are not causing an obstruction to traffic or violating any local loading bans.

You can also filter when searching on JustPark to show all our parking spaces with disabled access in Southend-on-sea (select this option by clicking on ‘Filters’ on the search results page).

  • Parking restrictions & event days

Much of the town centre, the seafront and most neighbouring residential areas are within a Southend-on-Sea resident parking scheme. Separated into relevant zones, each area has slightly differing restrictions – but the majority of pay-and-display on-street parking is in the town centre and on the seafront. Always make sure to read the relevant signposts at your chosen parking spot to ensure you are not parked illegally.

On the JustPark map, we’ll only show you spaces which you’re allowed to park in at the times you search for.

  • Overnight, weekends & bank holidays

On Bank Holidays and weekends, Southend-on-Sea is often at its busiest and therefore most on-street restrictions will still apply. Furthermore, off-street car parks will have limited spaces.

Overnight parking is available in a number of off-street locations throughout Southend, with some council-operated sites not charging after a certain time in the evening.
