Club History
Southampton F.C. was founded in 1885 as St. Mary’s Y.M.A. and joined the Football League in 1920. Known as The Saints, the club has a proud history on the south coast and a reputation for developing talented players through its academy, including the likes of Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott.
Southampton’s greatest triumph came in 1976, when they famously won the FA Cup, defeating Manchester United 1–0 in the final. About St Mary’s Stadium
St Mary’s Stadium has been Southampton’s home since 2001, replacing their historic Dell ground. Located near the River Itchen, close to Southampton city centre, the stadium has a capacity of over 32,000.
The modern, all-seater stadium was purpose-built to offer excellent facilities for supporters and has hosted England international matches, European fixtures, and concerts. Its central location makes it accessible, but also means that pre-booking parking through JustPark is highly recommended to avoid congestion.
