Preston North End F.C. was founded in 1880, originally as a cricket club before switching to football in 1881. They were one of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888, and became the first-ever league champions that same season, famously going unbeaten and earning the nickname “The Invincibles.”
Preston went on to win the league again in 1889–90 and the FA Cup twice, including the inaugural double in 1889. Although they haven’t played in the Premier League era, Preston has remained a respected and historic club within English football, with a loyal fanbase and a proud tradition.
