Nottingham Forest was founded in 1865. At the first meeting, the team purchsed a dozen tasselled caps in the colour of 'Garibaldi Red' - named after the leader of the Italian 'Redshirts' freedom fighters, the clubs official colours were then established. The first official football match took place on 22nd March 1866 against Notts County.

Forest started out at the Forest Racecourse, before relocating and having spells at different grounds before occupying the Town Ground between 1890-1895. They then moved to The City Ground where they have played their home games since 1898. Nottingham Railway Station is approximately a 20-minute walk (1.1 miles) from The City Ground.
