Club History
Middlesbrough F.C. was founded in 1876, making it one of the oldest football clubs in England. Based on Teesside, the club joined the Football League in 1899 and has a long history in the top two tiers of English football.
Boro’s most successful era came in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when investment under chairman Steve Gibson saw the club sign high-profile players and reach major finals. In 2004, Middlesbrough won the League Cup, their first major trophy, and went on to reach the UEFA Cup final in 2006, a historic achievement for the club. Known for their passionate local support, Middlesbrough has produced and developed many top players through their academy.
