The Blackpool Illuminations return for another dazzling season in 2026, lighting up nearly six miles of the Promenade from Starr Gate in the south to Bispham in the north. The season kicked off with the Switch-On on the Tower Festival Headland, and the lights stay on nightly right through to the new year.

The full display runs along the Promenade from Friday 4 September to Sunday 1 November 2026, then continues in a reduced form as part of Christmas by the Sea right through to Saturday 3 January 2027. Whichever night you're heading down, book your parking on JustPark ahead of time so you're not searching for a space once you arrive.

The lights come on at dusk each night, so the exact time shifts earlier as the season goes on — check Visit Blackpool's nightly timings closer to your visit. The main Switch-On event itself saw the display burst into life around 9pm after an afternoon of entertainment on the Tower Festival Headland. Parking fills up fastest in the hour or so before dusk, so arriving early and booking a space in advance makes for a much smoother evening.

The main run lasts 59 nights, from 4 September to 1 November 2026, before the reduced Christmas by the Sea display keeps parts of the Promenade lit until early January 2027. With the season stretching across several months, it's worth locking in parking for your specific date rather than leaving it to chance.

No — the main Illuminations display along the Promenade is free to walk, drive or tram past any night of the season. Only the Switch-On event itself on the Tower Festival Headland is ticketed; the rest of the six-mile route is open to everyone, so all you need to sort is somewhere to park.
