Anna has lived in her house in the centre of Brighton for 42 years. When she and her husband first bought it, the driveway was essential for commuting to London from Brighton Station. These days, they don’t drive anymore, leaving two prime parking spaces sitting empty.
That’s when Norman, her husband, heard from a barmaid at their local pub that she was renting out her driveway via JustPark. “We thought, why not?” Anna recalls. “We’ve been doing it ever since.” Anna is among a growing number of Brighton residents choosing to list their spaces on JustPark.
They have been renting out this space in Brighton for 11 years, so Anna can’t quite remember the setup process, which, she points out, must mean it was easy. What she does recall, however, is how quickly the spaces began to fill. Being right in the heart of Brighton, right near the Royal Pavilion means their driveway attracts visitors of every kind, with hen-do weekends being a particular theme. Sometimes the cars themselves are a spectacle: “We even had a DeLorean once. It brought the street to a standstill because drivers were stopping to take photos”.

The income has become a meaningful boost to their retirement. Anna and Norman don’t treat it as pocket money; they have been investing it back into their home. Over the years, JustPark bookings have helped fund redecorations, a new downstairs cloakroom, and even a complete overhaul of the outside rendering. “We’ve had the whole front redone and repainted. It’s all gone into maintaining the house,” Anna explains. On a good week, she estimates, the spaces can bring in around £200 meaning the space earns them a passive income of over £10k a year.
Day to day, she doesn’t find it any hassle. “It’s all set up now.” For Anna, hosting mostly ticks along quietly in the background.
Would she recommend it? “Definitely, if you’ve got the facilities, just do it.” When asked for advice to give new space owners, Anna told us that the important thing is to “keep an eye on messages and make sure you’ve got a good mobile connection”.
And will she keep going? Anna laughs. “Oh yes. For as long as JustPark keeps going, and for as long as I’m on this earth, I’ll be here.”
