There is no on-street parking available at Stansted Airport, and travellers are actively discouraged from leaving their cars in nearby Stansted Mountfitchet, where residential parking permits are required in many areas.
Off-street parking is your only option when parking at or near Stansted Airport. On-site car parks at the airport are expensive even if you reserve, but reserve you can, if you prefer the convenience of being close to the terminal and the guarantee of a professional shuttle service. Pre-booked spots are about £23 per day for the official long stay.
At Stansted Mountfitchet railway station there is an uncovered NCP car park with cheap daily and weekly rates, but the spaces are not reservable, except by season ticket holders for commuters. Among the reputable park-and-ride services available is CSL Stansted Park & Ride at Takely in Essex.
Other off-street parking deals include those offered by hotels with their own shuttle service. These tend to be reliable since the service reflects on the quality and reputation of the hotel. There are several hotels with Stansted parking deals, including the Holiday Inn Express, Travelodge and Novotel.
You’ll achieve the best Stansted parking prices by hiring out private driveways through JustPark. Be sure to check whether an airport transfer is included (sometimes a taxi or bus is required).
The quickest way straight into central London is via the Stansted Express, which takes around 45 to 50 minutes. Numerous local bus services serve Hertfordshire and Essex, and many coach services link to other airports, stations and cities farther afield.
All on-site car parks at Stansted Airport cater for disabled badge holders with bays positioned close to terminals or transfer shelters. The latter are equipped with help buttons. Transfer vehicles are wheelchair accessible.
No parking is allowed on the roads around Stansted Airport. This also applies to Blue Badge holders. Unattended vehicles are liable to be towed away by the police.
There are no price concessions made for bank holidays in airport parking, though the price for mid-stay and long-stay car parks at Stansted does vary seasonally (October to April, May to September).
Drivers can drop-off or pick up passengers for free from the mid-stay car park at Stansted. This is not immediately outside the terminal but is served by a courtesy bus.
Alternatively, the “Express Set-Down” area outside the terminal costs a few pounds if you leave within 15 minutes, but the cost rises sharply to £25.00 after that. A third option is the short-stay car park, which costs £6 for up to 30 minutes or £10.50 for up to an hour (orange and green zones).
Only 29 miles from Stansted Airport is the city of Cambridge, which makes a pleasant day out if you’re between flights or waiting to meet someone off a plane. Nearer still is Audley End, a magnificent 17th-century country house in Essex.
