Information about parking in Brighton

Brighton is located on the Southern coast of England around 90 minutes drive from London – with the A23/M23 running directly into the city from the M25. Brighton can also be found via the A27, linking it to Portsmouth to the West and Hastings to the East.

Be aware that parking in Brighton can be difficult – with limited on-street parking available and off-street car parks being particularly expensive for a city of its size.

Park and ride is an alternative option for drivers coming into the city, with a large amount of spaces available at the Withdean Sports Complex in the north west suburbs of Brighton. Parking here is free, and you will only need to pay a small bus fare to get into the centre.

If you’d rather park in the city itself, JustPark provides information on a multitude of parking options across Brighton, many of which are reservable – both on-street and off-street, from driveways to car parks.

  • On-street parking

    On-street parking

On-street parking within the city is largely restricted to resident permit and Blue Badge holders. There are still spaces available but these can be limited, so just be aware of signposts to ensure that you are not parked illegally.

Seafront pay-and-display spaces start at £3.20 per hour in both the Outer and Inner Zones in the spring and summer months, but from just £1.00 per hour in some areas of the Outer Seafront Zone during the winter.

Central Brighton pay-and-display spaces, where available, start at £3.60 per hour and provide the best access to the main shopping areas of the city.

However, off-street spaces reserved through JustPark often work out cheaper than on-street parking in Brighton.

  • Off-street parking

    Off-street parking

There are several off-street car parks to choose from in Brighton, but those that are run privately can be very expensive in comparison to the council-operated and on-street alternatives.

Brighton and Hove City Council operate a number of car parks throughout the city at a competitive rate. The cheapest of these is London Road car park (Providence Place, BN1 4GE – follow the link to reserve your space via JustPark), located just a short walk from Brighton train station. Open 24 hours a day Monday-Sunday with hundreds of spaces, this is perhaps the most convenient centrally-located off-street car park.

Another useful option provided by the council can be found very close to the seafront – a short distance from both Brighton Palace Pier and SEA LIFE Brighton. The Lanes car park (Black Lion Street, BN1 1ND) is also open 24 hours a day Monday-Sunday with appealing rates for its handy location. You can locate and view availability information for this car park via the search form or interactive map above.

As mentioned previously, Brighton also has a single park and ride location serving the city. You can park for free at Withdean Sports Complex car park (Withdean Sports Complex, Tongdean Lane, BN1 5JD), needing only to catch a bus from there to the centre.

JustPark offers a range of reservable off-street spaces across the city – which may prove cheaper and just as convenient.

  • Public transport

    Public transport

Brighton train station is the hub of public transport, located to the north of the City Centre. This station provides the main transport links to the rest of the country primarily through Southern rail. Surrounding areas can also be reached via local bus services from just outside the station.

  • Disabled parking

    Disabled parking

Disabled parking is available throughout Brighton, with much of the on-street parking actually reserved specifically for Blue Badge holders.

Blue Badge holders can also park for up to 3 hours on single or double yellow lines within the city as long as there are no loading restrictions (this would be clearly marked with yellow strips on the kerb).

You can also filter when searching on JustPark to show all our parking spaces with disabled access in Brighton (select this option by clicking ‘Filters’ on the search results page).

  • Parking restrictions & event days

    Parking restrictions & event days

On-street parking is generally permit-restricted in Brighton, and there are Controlled Parking Zones A through Z each with their own terms on applying for such permits. Parking is subsequently very difficult for non-permit holders every day of the week – including Sundays.

On the JustPark map, we’ll only show you spaces which you’re allowed to park in and are not restricted.

  • Overnight, weekends & bank holidays

    Overnight, weekends & bank holidays

Most car parks operate 24 hours a day within Brighton, but Regency Square car park (Regency Square, Brighton BN1 2FG) offers the most conveniently located and reasonably priced overnight option – as shown on the Brighton and Hove city council website.

During bank holidays and weekends, parking restrictions still apply in Brighton & Hove unless stated on signs. This is because the city has a very limited total number of on-street parking spaces on its roads.

Enter your dates and times on our search results page to see what’s available overnight.

    Nearby attractions

Brighton is a fabulously diverse and popular coastal city on the Southern seaboard of the UK, with plenty of things to see and do. The popular tourist attractions of Brighton Palace Pier and SEA LIFE Brighton are both worth a visit – located on the seafront opposite from one another at the southern edge of the centre.

If you’re a sports fan, Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club play at the nearby Amex Stadium in Falmer – a 20 minute drive or a short train journey to the north east of central Brighton.
