What We Learned at the 2025 NPA Convention & Expo
Last week in Indianapolis, our team joined parking and mobility leaders at the National Parking Association (NPA) Convention & Expo — one of the industry’s most important gatherings for learning, connection, and collaboration. The event reinforced a central truth: the parking ecosystem is at a crossroads, where clarity, openness, and innovation are more valuable than ever.
The Power of Clarity
In a marketplace shaped by mergers and acquisitions, confusion about “who does what” is inevitable. As Rebecca Groth, National Sales Director, observed, a well-crafted elevator pitch is more than marketing — it’s a strategic tool:
“Concise messaging creates interest and comfort, which opens the door to meaningful follow-up conversations.” Clear, confident communication doesn’t just cut through noise — it builds trust.
Integration as an Expectation
Customers aren’t asking whether vendors integrate; they’re asking how well. The demand for open, flexible partnerships is growing across the sector. This shift makes interoperability not a differentiator, but a baseline requirement.
Innovation Through New Perspectives
One of the most powerful moments came from keynote speaker Josh Linkner, quoting Edward de Bono:
“You can’t look in a new direction by looking harder in the same direction.”
For Tiffany Gianelloni, Director of Client Success and Growth, this is a reminder to resist clinging to strategies that no longer serve:
“As the Oobeo team embarks on this new chapter with JustPark, we must keep an open mind and embrace new ways of thinking. Fresh perspectives fuel meaningful change.”
This mindset — curiosity over comfort — will define the industry’s next chapter.
Analytics, Interoperability & Municipal Momentum
Garrett Mowles, Account Executive, noted a shift in buyer focus:
Cities and transit agencies are prioritizing control layers, unified enforcement-ready data, and multi-app acceptance.
Analytics are in demand once pricing is reframed around time to insight and cross-vendor normalization.
Events and venues respond best to live demos, where curiosity translates into next steps.
The lesson is clear: municipalities and transit agencies are leaning forward. To serve them well, providers must lead with analytics, interoperability, and practical packaging.
Innovation Balanced by Human Insight
As several speakers highlighted, innovation without checks can create chaos. Claire Rock, Senior Director of Marketing, captured this balance with a set of reminders:
“Innovation drives growth — and if not checked, can lead to chaos.” – Laura Longsworth, Brookfield Properties
“The voice of the customer and customer-facing employees are key in checks and balances.” – Maggie Vercoe, TEZ Technology
And, critically:
“We need to sell what will be relevant in three years, not just what’s relevant today.” – Brooke Krueger, ParkMobile by Arrive
Technology moves quickly. Government and infrastructure move slowly. Success comes from building bridges between the two.
Looking Ahead
The NPA Convention underscored a pivotal moment for our industry. Clarity in messaging, openness in integration, innovation through fresh thinking, and actionable analytics are no longer optional — they’re essential.
At JustPark, we’re embracing these challenges with optimism. By combining the strengths of our teams, keeping customers at the heart of our work, and leading with interoperability and insights, we’re ready to help shape the next era of mobility.
