Smithfield Rotunda Car Park

I booked and paid in advance for our parking at Smithfield Rotunda. Getting in was fine - our number plate was read and the barrier lifted. Getting out late at night was difficult. We approached the barrier and nothing happened. We pressed the intercom again and again and nobody answered. I rang the number on the booking information and an automated service gave me a new pin - which was interesting as I had not been provided with a pin before. Neither the pay machine or exit barrier have any method allowing pin input. Eventually, a man wandered out from the car park and asked if we had paid. After some huffing and puffing (definitely not customer service!) he agreed to let us out. The whole experience was miserable. We really doubted we would be able to get out at all that night. Funnily enough the pay machines recognised our car reg and was inviting us just to pay again to be able to leave! Security: There is no restriction on pedestrians entering the car park, unlike the NCP car park we used earlier in the day which required our car reg to be input to obtain pedestrian access. And we had no problem leaving. I would recommend you do not use this car park. Security is non existence and leaving the car park requires manual intervention.

Great apart from very difficult getting out through the barriers to leave

Upon departure the barrier didn't open. I Had to call the information office and verify car and booking details after a minute or two the barrier opened.

Barrier did not automatically open on my exit. I called for an assistance numerous times but no response. Eventually I drove back into the car park and found an assistant. This whole process took 25 mins.

Easy an there is a lot of spaces, near BLS Spain

Difficulty in exiting the car park as the barrier did not open automatically. I was 10 minutes early leaving. A lengthy conversation took place using the barrier intercom as the person on the other end could not find details of my booking and I could not give him my booking ref number as I did not have it with me. Eventually after much persuasion he raised the barrier without any reason being given by him for doing this. In all it was very frustrating on my part and for the others patiently waiting in the queue behind me!

Entry was straightforward but exit was a dreadful experience. The barrier did not rise and the message on the payment machine advised that the full payment was needed - the car's registration was recognised - and I had, of course, paid in advance. I had to reverse out of the way down a difficult spiral and then search for assistance from the car park employees. They then went up to the barrier and raised it for me. They seemed to think it was a usual 'Just Park' problem!

So fast and easy and hassle free

exit is unnecessary fussy.
