Easing financial burdens across the UK: Industry insights with JustPark's Head of Supply Growth, Lauren Robson

Lauren is Head of Supply Growth at JustPark; we spoke to her about her experience, her role and her vision for JustPark.

What was your first job?

My very first job was pulling pints in a pub! If you haven’t been I suggest a visit to the Rosemary branch near Shoreditch Park!

My first office job was actually at a German fintech called N26. At the time when I joined the company was going through hypergrowth and we went from a team of over 100 to over 1000. I was in charge of PR & comms for 14 European markets, some of which had no idea who or what N26 was. It was a lot of pitching and hustling to get the N26 name out there. I also managed their university ambassador programme and was responsible for their comms strategy for entering the UK market.

Summarise your role in two sentences.

I get customers on the platform and make sure they stay on our platform to grow the business in a sustainable and continued way.

How would your colleagues describe you?

I think loud and ginger tend to be the two words associated with me the most.

I have a strong bias towards execution so I tend to move quite fast and get things done quickly. I’m energetic and serially passionate which means I always give 100%, sadly that means I don’t really have an off button. I have always said that both my superpower and weakness is chatting and I think my colleagues would echo that.

What’s your favourite thing about JustPark?

My favourite thing about JustPark on a professional level is helping people earn money. In the UK at the moment people are suffering from the cost of living crisis. During this time it’s great to work for a company that is helping people earn money from home and ease the burden even just a little. JustPark helps people make use of an asset that otherwise would do nothing for them. It’s nice to go home at the end of the day and think that you might have helped someone make their life a little easier.

On a personal level, I have to say Julie’s lunch. Julie is our chef who makes the most delicious lunches and cakes. Working at JustPark has been fantastic for my taste buds… less fantastic on the waistline.

What are two personal goals you want to achieve in 2023?

In 2023 I want to improve my SQL skills and finally finish furnishing my home.

SQL is a widely used programming language, it enables you to analyse & understand large sets of complex data. Data is incredibly important in a growth role. Understanding how our growth strategies impact the business as a whole is key to success. My SQL skills are pretty basic at the moment so improving them is objective number 1!

I am learning to build a lot of the furniture myself so it’s taking a very long time to furnish! However I have a vision of what I want and I decided to do it myself so I want to finish it all this year.

As head of growth, what are your hopes for JustPark over the next 12 months?

I hope that JustPark continues to grow and expand their supply footprint. We want to be the parking provider that makes everyone's journey easier. In order to do that we need to have spaces across the length and breadth of the UK for our customers to book.

We need to make sure that we have enough spaces that suit our customers' needs and at such a volume that people won’t need to look anywhere else to park. All they’ll need is our app!

At the same time we need to make sure that our space owners are earning the money that they want by renting their space. We want to help space owners get the most value from their space out.

In the next 12 months I want to see thousands more spaces on the JustPark platform, and thousands more households earning money using JustPark.

What motivates you to work hard?

There are a couple of things that motivate me. I want to do a good job for my teammates. We are all working towards a common goal so I want to help reach that goal as much as I can.

Secondly, as I mentioned before, JustPark is a platform that can genuinely help people. Especially now in the current cost of living crisis. I’m motivated to bring as many people onto the JustPark platform as possible and help them earn as much as they can.

Finally, I have a very strong bias towards execution. I like to get something done and see the results as soon as I can. This bias means that I need to work hard to continue to execute at the speed I like to.

What is one prediction you have for the future of the parking industry?

In my mind the parking industry is caught between customers who want to drive more and governments who are trying to reduce the number of cars on the road.

Local councils and authorities are pushing further to reduce congestion across cities. There is a rise in the number of car free developments being built across the UK, and cities across the UK announced the introduction of emission zones in 2022. However, drivers across the UK seem to be going in the opposite direction. A large number of people are still preferring the safety of cars as opposed to public transport. Car traffic is only increasing, from 2021-2022 the % of car traffic increased by 13.5% according to the RAC.

The parking industry is rapidly innovating, with more operators offering digital solutions to people's parking needs than ever before. However, local governments and councils will want the parking industry to do more to reduce congestion across our streets.

This is what makes JustPark’s solution unique. We offer the ability to book a driveway rather than having to drive round and round looking for a space or queuing up to get into a large parking garage.

What’s your dream holiday destination?

Alaska! The landscape there is incredibly beautiful. I love hiking and really want to explore the Alaskan wilderness.
